About Natasha Sheldon
Natasha Sheldon is a writer, researcher and historian with a passion for the past. At seven, she decided she wanted to be an archaeologist and at nine discovered a lifetime passion for Pompeii after coming across Pliny, the younger’s description of the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. Natasha has subsequently visited and studied Pompeii extensively, resulting in Discovering Pompeii, her guide to the city’s archaeology told in the form of three tours through Pompeii’s history.
Natasha studied Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Leicester, where she was awarded the Arnold Wycombe Gomme Prize for Ancient History, followed by a Masters in Classics and Historiography at the University of Bristol. Her particular interests are ancient religion and Roman history. Both are well represented on History and Archaeology Online under Roman Art and Architecture, Roman Britain, Roman Leisure and Entertainment, Roman Festivals and Roman Gods, Roman Houses and Gardens and Roman Religion.
Natasha has visited many ancient sites across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Besides Pompeii and Herculaneum, those included on History and Archaeology Online so far include Bosra, Carthage, Ugarit and Palmyra. There are more to come!
Natasha has also written three books for The History Press: Not a Guide to Leicester, Leicester in 100 Dates and The Little Book of Leicestershire.
She has various works in progress, including Exploring Herculaneum, the second book in her Discovering Ancient Sites series.
